Limassol Municipality Awarded for Best European Mobility Week 2024 Events

At a ceremony held on September 12, 2025, in Limassol, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Alexis Vafeades, presented the Mayor of Limassol with the award for the best event organization during European Mobility Week 2024. The award was accompanied by a €2,000 cash prize.

 

This distinction highlights Limassol Municipality’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable mobility and improve accessibility in public spaces through initiatives that encourage citizens to adopt alternative modes of transport.

 

The theme of this year’s European Mobility Week, “Mobility for All”, focuses on equal and safe access to environmentally friendly means of transportation, reminding us that everyone has the right to safe, sustainable, and accessible mobility.

 

In his address, Minister Vafeades underlined that the Ministry’s strategy places strong emphasis on sustainable mobility, which contributes to improving quality of life and creating more human-centered, functional cities. He also noted that European Mobility Week strengthens environmental awareness and encourages citizen participation in activities that make everyday life better.

 

The Minister further referred to the “Priority Projects of the Limassol Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP)”, with a total budget of €10 million, currently under implementation and funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility.

 

Concluding, the Minister warmly congratulated Limassol Municipality, volunteers, and citizens actively participating in European Mobility Week, stressing that “with your contribution, we are making sustainable mobility a reality and improving the quality of life in our cities.”

 

This recognition reaffirms Limassol Municipality’s consistent commitment to being a model of sustainable mobility, investing in policies and initiatives that make daily life easier, greener, and more people-friendly.
