European Territorial Cooperation INTERREG MED 2014-2020

Project Title: Mediterranean Interregional Electromobility Networks for intermodal and interurban low carbon transport systems

Acronym: EnerNETMob

Fund:

INTERREG MED

Priority Axis:

Promoting low carbon and energy efficiency strategies in specific MED territories: cities, islands and remote areas

OBJECTIVE Increasing the capacity to use existing low-carbon transport systems and multimodal connections between them.

Short Description of the Project

EnerNETMob aims to draft, test and improve "Sustainable E-Mobility Plans" according to common standards and low-carbon policies, in order to create an "Interregional E-Mobility Network" crossing cities of the entire Interreg MED region. The project promotes the use of shared mobility services and the multimodality of land-sea transport using electric vehicles, implementing long-distance and inter-regional pilot electric vehicle charging networks (EVSE) that can be co-powered by renewable energy sources.

The total budget of the Project is 5.74 million Euros and is divided among 15 Partners from 12 countries. The budget of Cyprus amounts to 434,400 Euros.

Within the framework of the Project, the following three pilot actions are implemented:

    1. Combined sea-road transport: Pilot program 1 aims at tests to optimize the mileage performance of electric vehicle batteries combined with marine vehicles. The pilot includes 9 electric vehicle charging points and 5 electric vehicles in the following countries: Malta, Albania, Greece (Thessaly), Croatia (Primorje County and Gorski Cotar), Montenegro (Port of Bar).

2. Shared Mobility Services: Pilot 2 aims to test electrified mobility with car-sharing and bike-sharing systems co-powered with renewable energy sources. The pilot includes 15 electric vehicle charging stations, 5 electric vehicles and electric bicycles in the following countries: Cyprus (Nicosia), Slovenia (Goriska), Greece (Peloponnisos), Italy (Ragusa)

3. City Logistics: Pilot 3 aims to test last-mile logistics to develop a sustainable business model for agri-food chains. The pilot includes 4 electric vehicle charging stations, 3 electric vehicles and 3 e-cargo bikes in the following countries: France (Bouche-du-Rhone), Italy (Palermo), Portugal (Arrabida).

The Project started on 01/02/2018 and was completed on 30/4/2022 with the Department of Public Works of Cyprus achieving 80% fund absorption, installing 3 electric vehicle charging stations, 4 electric bicycle charging stations with 12 bicycles and incorporating an electric vehicle in his service fleet.

Main Deliverables/Project Tools:

    • The preparation of the "Electromobility Policy and Regulations Framework of the EU" which is a comprehensive report of the policies and regulations/directives of the E.U. and their implementation at the national level. The document summarizes the results of the local analysis carried out by each partner in its country/region and consists of 15 national and local reports prepared by each partner involved according to a common framework and common themes.

The purpose is to compare the legal framework of the policies implemented by the Member States involved, in order to develop the reference point for the guidelines and technical standards to be adopted for the implementation of the Mediterranean Interregional Electrification Network and the associated Small Scale Infrastructure Networks.

    • The preparation of the "Local Context Analysis for Electric Mobility and Energy Supply" which includes:

– the current state of transport supply and demand in all involved countries/regions, with a focus on long-distance travel and the integration of electromobility with multimodal terminals

– where possible, the current state of energy supply and demand analysis of local networks, with an emphasis on RES supply systems in coordination with local/regional and national authorities.
